Dollar Tree has recalled more than a quarter million projector flashlights featuring Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Iron Man.

The flashlights can cause the batteries and bulb to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard. Three incidents involving batteries overheating have been reported, although no injuries have been reported. In one case a flashlight melted and in one case a flashlight battery caught fire.

If you have purchased one of these you may return it to the store for a full refund, even though they only cost $1.

Which leads me to ask: Do you really expect a flashlight that costs $1 to be safe?

Apparently the Melter shops at Dollar Tree

Anyway…I can’t recommend that you let your child keep their flashlight, but their potential danger does accurately represent the danger faced by superheroes like Wolverine and Spider-Man everyday. So if you’re worried that your kid has a romanticized idea of what it means to be a superhero, and you want them to understand how it really feels to be Wolverine facing down Pyro or Spider-Man battling Electro…
